Overview
The next Urban Counties
Education and Policy Conference will be held on November 18-20, 2009 at the
Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, Texas.
Riverwalk 2009 will be an opportunity for
urban county officials to gather in a relaxed setting for in-depth discussions
of the major issues and challenges facing urban counties. It will feature a mix
of top-level state and national speakers and educational programming that is
tailored for the interests of county officials from urban areas. The conference
will set the tone for Urban County policy for the next regular session of the
Legislature and may result in policy formulation on the spot – or provide
direction for the development of future policy positions.

Riverwalk
2009 will feature a rich mix of top-level state and local speakers and
programming that is tailored for the interests of urban county officials.
Although the roster of speakers is still being finalized, we expect to have over
eleven hours of continuing education credit for commissioners who attend the
entire conference. In addition to thought provoking presentations and
discussions, the conference will include updates from key Senate and House
Committee Chairs on the progress of their interim studies and on the outlook for
the next regular session in 2011.

elections, information technology, and legislative staff – will all benefit

Members of the Texas
Conference of Urban Counties may register for Riverwalk 2009 by calling the
Urban Counties offices at (512) 476-6174. A confirmation of registration will be
sent to your office with an invoice for registration fees.
Registration fees for
Riverwalk 2009 include the following:

reception, dinner and keynote speaker;

breakfast, luncheon and evening reception with hors d’oeuvres; and

Airport/Interstate 35 South
Take U.S. 281 South
(Highway 37) into downtown. Take the Commerce Street
Exit and turn right onto Commerce Street. Turn left onto
St. Mary's Street and then turn left onto Market Street.
The hotel is located on the corner of Market and
Navarro.
From East
Take Interstate 10 West
into San Antonio. Take I-37 North and exit at Commerce
Street. Turn left onto Commerce Street, turn left onto
St. Mary's Street, then turn left onto Market Street.
The hotel is on the right located at the corner of
Market and Navarro.
From Interstate 37
North
Take Interstate 37
North and exit at Commerce Street. Turn left onto
Commerce Street, then turn left onto St. Mary's Street.
Next turn left onto Market Street. The hotel is located
on the right at the corner of Market and Navarro.
From Interstate 35
North
Take Interstate 35
North into downtown and exit at Durango. Turn left at
the light onto Santa Rosa, then turn right onto Dolorosa
which turns into Market Street. The hotel is on the
right.
From West
Take I-10 into
downtown. Stay on the upper level to I-35 South. Take
the Durango Street Exit and follow the curve. Turn left
onto Santa Rosa. Turn right onto Dolorosa which turns
into Market Street. The hotel is located on the right
past St. Mary's Street.
Conference participants will
need to make their own hotel reservations. A special conference rate of $120 per
night has been negotiated for the conference. You may make your room
reservations using the links provided below. Please request the Texas

of $120 per night.

RIVERWALK 2009 CONFERENCE AGENDA
Join your colleagues for a fun-filled evening of
music, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the Olivares room, overlooking the
riverwalk.
Golf -
(Wednesday, November 18, 2009)
The biennial golf championship will be held at Quarry Golf Club,
which is recognized around the country for its unique setting and design.
Tee-times will start at 12:00pm on Wednesday November 18, 2009. Please note that
spaces are extremely limited, so sign up early. The tournament organizers will
assemble teams according to player handicaps. Green fees are included in your
conference registration.
